The events of the book began when the mother of one of the main characters was killed in an attempt to kidnap her daughter. Elena, the daughter of this trafficker was not kidnapped, but she was brutalized, raped, and sold to pedophiles. The writers had to keep all this to a minimum for the audience to understand. The story written was in third person narrative. All the characters and the events that happened during the course of the book were fictitious, but the events and the characters were loosely based on people that are alive.
